Ember is operated by FaithCardsCo Ministries, Inc.. For the personal data described here, FaithCardsCo Ministries, Inc. is the data controller — we decide why and how it is processed.
What we collect and why
- Account data — email address and login credentials, and where you sign in with Google, the basic profile that provider shares. Used to create and secure your account (performance of our contract with you).
- Couple data — the names you enter, your invite code and pairing. Used to connect the two of you and show the right shared space (contract).
- Content you create — journal entries, chat messages, prayers, appreciation notes, check-in and repair answers, and voice recordings. Used only to provide the service to you and your partner (contract).
- Usage and device data — streaks, feature usage, app logs, device identifiers and IP address. Used to keep Ember secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve the product (legitimate interests).
- Support messages — what you send us when you ask for help. Used to answer you (legitimate interests).
- Marketing — if you opt in, your email for occasional product news (consent; withdraw any time).
We also process data where we must to comply with a legal obligation, such as tax and accounting records.
Voice and AI processing
When you record a voice note, the audio is sent to our AI transcription provider to turn it into text. When you use "Soften this message", your draft is sent to an AI provider to suggest a gentler wording. These providers process the content on our instructions to return a result; we do not use your private content to train public models.
Who we share it with
- Your partner — content in the shared space (chat, prayer journal, appreciation jar, check-ins) is visible to the partner you paired with. Your personal journal is not.
- Service providers — hosting, database, authentication, AI transcription and text processing, and support tooling, acting on our instructions.
- Paddle — our Merchant of Record, for the sale of Ember, subscription management, payments, invoicing and tax compliance.
- Professional advisers — legal and accounting, where necessary.
- Authorities — where required by law or to protect people from harm.
We do not sell your personal data.
International transfers
Our providers may process data outside your country, including outside the UK and EEA. Where they do, transfers rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses with appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or leave a couple, we delete or anonymise the associated content within 30 days, except where we must keep records longer for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons. Backups are cycled out on a rolling basis.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, row-level access rules so only you and your partner can reach your content, and restricted internal access.
Cookies
Ember uses essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and remember your ritual settings. Paddle sets cookies needed for checkout. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though sign-in will stop working.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can request access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@faithcardsco.com and we will respond within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA, you can also complain to your local supervisory authority.
